Akshay Kumar has officially kicked off the countdown for his upcoming horror-comedy Bhooth Bangla by dropping a quirky motion poster on social media. Captioned, “Bhooth Bangla ka countdown rewind! 15 May, 10 April, Milte hain theatres mein, #BhoothBangla,” the post revealed that the film’s release has been preponed to 10 April 2026, instead of the previously announced 15 May date.
The motion poster features a playful yet eerie visual of a black cat altering dates on a haunted calendar, perfectly setting the tone for the film’s blend of humour and supernatural elements. The whimsical announcement immediately caught fan attention, building curiosity around the film’s spooky-comic universe while clearly signalling the shift in its theatrical arrival.
Bhooth Bangla is directed by Priyadarshan and marks the much-anticipated reunion of the filmmaker with Akshay Kumar after nearly 14 years. The duo has previously delivered iconic hits such as Hera Pheri and Bhool Bhulaiyaa, making this collaboration one of the most talked-about aspects of the project. Their return together has raised expectations of a nostalgic yet refreshed take on the horror-comedy genre.
The film boasts a strong ensemble cast featuring Paresh Rawal and Rajpal Yadav alongside Akshay Kumar, with Tabu, Vidya Balan, Wamiqa Gabbi, and Asrani also playing key roles. The return of seasoned comedy performers has fuelled excitement among audiences who associate the genre’s golden run with this very combination of talent.
According to director Priyadarshan, Bhooth Bangla draws inspiration from Indian mythology, black magic, and ancient texts such as the Vedas and the Mahabharata. The story revolves around a mysterious, seemingly haunted mansion, blending traditional folklore with contemporary humour. Interestingly, the script was initially conceived as a sequel to Bhool Bhulaiyaa before being reworked into a standalone narrative.
Produced by Ektaa R Kapoor and Shobha Kapoor under Balaji Motion Pictures in association with Akshay Kumar’s Cape of Good Films, the film has already sparked conversation online. While many fans welcomed the ensemble’s return to slapstick scares, others debated the apparent use of AI-generated visuals in the motion poster. With anticipation and discussion running high, Bhooth Bangla is shaping up to be one of 2026’s most closely watched theatrical releases.
